MEET THE AUTHOR

Valerian Markarov is an author of such sublime depth and beauty that his works have been known to cause a tear to fall from the eyes of even the hardest of hearts.
Just kidding...  But he does write.

This humble writer resides in Tbilisi (Georgia), sharing a house with his magnificent wife who somehow overlooked Valerian's eccentricities and married him anyway.

But let's start from the very beginning...

The writer-to-be was born on April 16, 1967, in the heart of the capital of Georgia, where he spent most of his life. His mother was a biologist and his father was an engineer as well as an artist. While his loving and caring mother taught her son lessons of kindness and morality, Valerian's father introduced him to the wonderful world of art and literature.

Valerian is a magna cum laude graduate of Tbilisi State University who earned an M. A. in World History and practiced as a high school teacher. After a few years, just to shake things up, he went to the U. S. to study at California State University and later studied in Israel.

He was engaged in education projects, worked in a number of international organizations with some really important people who are way too dignified to be named here. Since 2005, he has been acting as the Managing Director of the GOLDEN BRIDGE International Educational Center, working in the field of international education and cultural exchanges. Not to mention, Valerian Markarov is also an International Doctor of Philosophy (Belgium), an Honorary Professor of the European University (Germany), and an Honorary Professor of Jan Hus Academy (Czech Republic).

For his dedicated services to overseas education and for strengthening international cultural relations, Dr. Markarov has been a recipient of various international awards, including the World Order of "Science. Education. Culture" (Belgium), the Order of Makarenko, the Leonardo da Vinci Medal (Italy/Germany), and the Dostoevsky Medal (Russia), to name a few.

What’s more, Valerian is an Honorary Citizen of the City of Davis (California, USA) as well as an alumnus of the Exchange Training Programs funded by the governments of the USA (at California State University, Sacramento), Israel (at MASHAV Training Center), and Italy (at Turin Training Center of the International Labor Organization).

In addition to being involved in the education sphere, Valerian is also a remarkable writer. An author of contemporary novels, that have found homes on international bookshelves, he received praise and starred reviews in the media for his literary works, becoming the new discovery for creative writing lovers all around the world. In particular, he has garnered much acclaim for his swashbuckling historical novels about the great artists Leonardo da Vinci and Niko Pirosmani that required years of archive research and trips.

Valerian has been elected a member of the International Academy of Literature and Arts (headquarters in Germany). The distinction of Membership is usually reserved for academics who have made a significant international contribution to the literary community.

Besides his membership in the International Academy of Literature and Arts, Valerian is also a member of the Writers' Union, the founder of PARNASSUS International Union of Creative Writers (Georgia), the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Literary Award "Gradus ad Parnassum", and a permanent jury member of various international literary competitions.

Valerian is also a recipient of several awards, including the De Richelieu Honor and the Mark Twain American Literary Award as well as the winner of the International Slavic Literary Award "Golden Knight" (Russia), the Prize "For the Benefit of the World", the International Literary Prize "DIAS", "DANKO", and the finalist for The Hemingway Canadian Literary Award (Toronto, Canada).

In addition, Valerian is a laureate of the National Literary Prize "Golden Pen of Russia" and the International Literary Peace Award (Germany/USA), which recognizes talented, famous, and successful writers of the world, whose high-spirited, bright, and noble works promote the universal values that unite peoples and make our world better, such as humanism, peace, kindness, justice, and love.

His creations have been published in literary magazines and almanacs in 15 countries. Valerian believes that literature can change the world and uses it to inspire and empower young people.

His texts in the author's performance are an incredible unity of the subtlest - in all nuances and shades! - a unique style, humor - to tears, and piercing wisdom of talking about life.

“My creative meetings - and this is already known to many ... this is an author's program in which stories are woven and author's reading of bright passages or short stories,” says Valerian Markarov about his performances.

On top of all that, Valerian is also passionate about traveling - he has hiked, sailed, dived, and biked in many countries. Likewise, he enjoys culinary and adventures as well as loves chocolate (as should all right-thinking people!).

Unsurprisingly, Valerian considers himself the luckiest person in the world to be involved in two careers that he loves. More important than either career, however, is his family —  his wife Nora, two extraordinary sons, a lifetime collection of books, and an exceptionally adorable dog, Archibald, who prefers to support the author's indoor hobbies, like reading and drinking too much coffee…
