Meet the Author

Valerian Markarov is an author of such sublime depth and beauty that his works have been known to cause a tear to fall from the eyes of even the hardest of hearts.
Just kidding...  But he does write.

This humble writer resides in Tbilisi (Georgia), sharing a house with his magnificent wife who somehow overlooked Valerian's eccentricities and married him anyway.

But let's start at the very beginning...

Valerian Markarov was born on April 16, 1967, in the heart of Tbilisi, where he has spent most of his life. He graduated magna cum laude from Tbilisi State University with a Master’s degree in World History and began his career as a high school teacher.

Driven by a thirst for knowledge and adventure, Valerian continued his studies abroad—at California State University in the United States and later in Israel. Over the years, he has taken part in numerous educational projects and worked closely with leaders of international organizations.

Since 2005, he has served as Managing Director of the GOLDEN BRIDGE International Educational Center, specializing in global education and cultural exchange. His achievements have earned him numerous honors, including the title of International Doctor of Philosophy (Belgium), Honorary Professor of the European University (Germany), and Honorary Professor of Jan Hus Academy (Czech Republic).

For his outstanding contributions to international education and cultural diplomacy, Dr. Markarov has received numerous prestigious awards, including:

– the World Order of “Science. Education. Culture” (Belgium)
– the Order of Makarenko
– the Leonardo da Vinci Medal (Italy/Germany)
-  and the Dostoevsky Medal (Russia)

But education is only one chapter of his story. Valerian Markarov is also an acclaimed author. His literary works—especially his historical novels—have earned critical praise and starred reviews, positioning him as a fresh and powerful voice in contemporary fiction. He is especially renowned for his richly imagined novels centered on iconic artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Niko Pirosmani.

His literary accomplishments led to his election to the International Academy of Literature and Arts—an honor typically reserved for scholars of significant global impact. Valerian is also a proud member of the Writers’ Union, the founder of PARNASSUS: International Union of Creative Writers (Georgia), the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Literary Award Gradus ad Parnassum, and a permanent jury member in several international literary competitions.

His accolades include:

– the De Richelieu Honor
– the Mark Twain American Literary Award
– the Slavic Literary Award “Golden Knight” (Russia)
– the International Literary Prizes “DIAS” and “DANKO”
– finalist for the Hemingway Canadian Literary Award (Toronto)
– laureate of the National Literary Prize “Golden Pen of Russia” – and the International Literary Peace Award (Germany/USA), which honors writers whose work promotes peace, humanism, justice, and love.

Valerian’s works have been published in literary journals and anthologies across more than 15 countries. He believes deeply in the transformative power of literature—and uses it to inspire and empower the younger generation. His live readings are often described as a captivating blend of wit, sensitivity, and quiet wisdom.

Beyond the pen and podium, Valerian is also an avid traveler. He’s hiked, sailed, biked, and dived in many countries. He loves culinary adventures almost as much as he loves chocolate (as any reasonable person should).

And above all else, Valerian considers himself the luckiest man alive—blessed with two careers he loves and, more importantly, with his beloved wife Nora, two extraordinary sons, a lifetime collection of books, and a remarkably dignified dog named Archibald, who much prefers quiet evenings, reading, and supporting his human’s coffee habit...
