Meet the Author
Valerian Markarov is an author of such sublime depth and beauty that his works have been known to cause a tear to fall from the eyes of even the hardest of hearts.
Just kidding... But he does write.
This humble writer resides in Tbilisi (Georgia), sharing a house with his magnificent wife who somehow overlooked Valerian's eccentricities and married him anyway.
But let's start from the very beginning...
The writer-to-be Valerian Markarov was born on April 16, 1967, in the heart of the Georgian capital, where he would spend most of his life.
Valerian is a magna cum laude graduate of Tbilisi State University, earning an M.A. in World History and practicing as a high school teacher. After a few years, he decided to expand his horizons, traveling to the United States to study at California State University and later in Israel.
Engaged in various educational projects, Valerian worked with a number of important figures in international organizations. Since 2005, he has served as the Managing Director of the GOLDEN BRIDGE International Educational Center, specializing in international education and cultural exchanges. His accolades include being an International Doctor of Philosophy (Belgium), an Honorary Professor of the European University (Germany), and an Honorary Professor of Jan Hus Academy (Czech Republic).
For his contributions to overseas education and strengthening international cultural relations, Dr. Markarov has received numerous awards, such as the World Order of "Science. Education. Culture" (Belgium), the Order of Makarenko, the Leonardo da Vinci Medal (Italy/Germany), and the Dostoevsky Medal (Russia).
Beyond his work in education, Valerian Markarov is also an acclaimed writer. As an author of contemporary novels, he has earned praise and starred reviews for his literary works, establishing himself as a new discovery for creative writing enthusiasts worldwide. He has garnered particular acclaim for his historical novels featuring the lives of renowned artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Niko Pirosmani.
Valerian's literary achievements have led to his election as a member of the prestigious International Academy of Literature and Arts, an honor typically reserved for academics who have made significant international contributions to the literary community. He is also a member of the Writers' Union, the founder of PARNASSUS International Union of Creative Writers (Georgia), the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Literary Award "Gradus ad Parnassum", and a permanent jury member of various international literary competitions.
Valerian's accolades include the De Richelieu Honor, the Mark Twain American Literary Award, the International Slavic Literary Award "Golden Knight" (Russia), the Prize "For the Benefit of the World", the International Literary Prize "DIAS", "DANKO", and a finalist for The Hemingway Canadian Literary Award (Toronto, Canada). He is also a laureate of the National Literary Prize "Golden Pen of Russia" and the International Literary Peace Award (Germany/USA), which recognizes talented and successful writers whose works promote universal values like humanism, peace, kindness, justice, and love.
Valerian's writings have been published in literary magazines and almanacs across 15 countries. He believes that literature has the power to change the world and uses it to inspire and empower young people. His author performances are described as an incredible unity of a unique, nuanced style, humor, and piercing wisdom.
On top of all that, Valerian is also passionate about traveling - he has hiked, sailed, dived, and biked in many countries. Likewise, he enjoys culinary and adventures as well as loves chocolate (as should all right-thinking people!).
Unsurprisingly, Valerian considers himself the luckiest person in the world to be involved in two careers that he loves. More important than either career, however, is his family — his wife Nora, two extraordinary sons, a lifetime collection of books, and an exceptionally adorable dog, Archibald, who prefers to support the author's indoor hobbies, like reading and drinking too much coffee…
